Tiger Basketball Off-Week Update

BATON ROUGE — The Tigers held a rare in-season scrimmage, with officials, Saturday to get ready for Tuesday night’s game with Utah. LSU has been off since a win over Louisiana Monroe on Nov. 29. The Tigers have been off since then because of dead week and final exams.

LSU played four separate score quarter scrimmages, two of 12 minutes and two of 10 minutes. The Gold team was made up of the five starters – Jaime Lloreda, Brandon Bass, Antonio Hudson, Xavier Whipple and Regis Koundjia – against the remainder of the Tiger squad.

The two teams combined to shoot 48.4 percent from the floor, hitting 46-of-95 total shots, with 26 assists and 27 turnovers combined. Lloreda led LSU with 25 points and 11 boards, while Bass had 17 points, Antonio Hudson 13 and Tack Minor and Darnell Lazare 11 each. Whipple also had 13 assists on the afternoon.

The only injury was a cut over Ross Neltner’s left eyelid, but he was out only a short time and returned for later action. Trainer Drew Shea did not think stitches would be necessary and should not affect his status for Tuesday night’s game.

LSU and Utah meet Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN as the start of three home games in eight days before Christmas with LSU also meeting Southern Miss Saturday at 3 p.m. and Tulane on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all three games are available on line at www.LSUsports.net and at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office.
