BATON ROUGE — Three streaks go on the line as LSU tries to finish the month of November 4-0 as the men’s basketball team plays host to Louisiana Monroe at the Maravich Assembly Center at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for the game are $10 and available at the upper ticket windows of the Center 90 minutes prior to kickoff. Radio coverage of the game will be on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net. LSU fans are reminded the contest is an afternoon game despite tickets and publications that lists the game at 7 p.m.
The Tigers played their best overall game in a 78-69 win over Troy State on Wednesday night to run their record to 3-0. The Tigers have now won eight straight games going into the Saturday contest and also on the line in the ULM game will be a 49-game home regular season winning streak against non-conference opponents and a 45-game home winning streak against Louisiana schools.
In the Troy State win, LSU was 10-of-19 from the three-point range and overall shot 49.1 percent for the game as Jaime Lloreda had 23 points on 8-of-10 field goal shooting. Antonio Hudson had his third straight double figure game with 15, while Darrel Mitchell scored 13 and Xavier Whipple had his first career double figure game with 11. The Tigers held Troy State to 69 points after the Trojans, an NCAA Tournament team from a year ago, scored 140 points against an NAIA opponent on Monday.
ULM, with Mike Vining at the helm for his 23rd season at the Monroe school, is 0-4 this season all away from home with an overtime loss at Bradley, a loss at Miami and losses in the Las Vegas Classic to Northeastern and Rhode Island. The Indians arrived back in Monroe Thursday afternoon from Las Vegas, bussed to Baton Rouge Friday for Saturday’s game and then will hurry back for their home opener Sunday afternoon.
Although the Indians are starting slow, they have been known to rally back, going 10-10 last year in the final 20 games after starting 2-6.
After this game, the Tigers are off for 18 days for dead week and final exams before returning to play at the Assembly Center in a nationally televised contest against Utah on Dec. 18 at 8 p.m.
