BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, with little time to rest and prepare after Monday’s 87-77 win over McNeese State, takes on Troy State University Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center.
Tickets are available for $10 each at the upper ticket windows of the Assembly Center beginning 90 minutes prior to tip off. The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network in Baton Rouge on 107.3 FM because of a radio conflict with Tiger Sportsline and some of the Network affiliates will join the game in progress after the show.
The Tigers are 2-0 on the season and will have two more games this week before an 18-day break for dead week and final exams. Troy State is 1-0 on the season after an amazing 140-66 win Monday night in the Trojans season opener at Troy, Ala. The Trojans his 26-of-52 three-point attempts in the rout and eight of the nine players who played for Troy State scored in double figures led by Jonathan Lee off the bench who hit 24 points on eight-of-11 three-point shooting.
Not that the Tigers didn’t have some offense as Jaime Lloreda played for the first time this season and scored 30 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. It marked the first time since February 1992 and Shaquille O’Neal versus Auburn that a Tiger player scored 30 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the same game.
Also Tiger freshman Brandon Bass made it two consecutive double-doubles with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Darrel Mitchell found his shooting touch with three treys as part of a 16-point night and junior Antonio Hudson made it back-to-back double figure scoring games with 11 points despite an injured left calf.
“Troy State is going to come in here and they have 26 wins a year ago and won at Arkansas last year,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “We have to improve again and we have one day to prepare. Hopefully, we will be able to do that.”
Troy State is coached by Don Maestri, who has won 358 games in 22 years at Troy State and his team loves to play the up and down, run and gun style that took them to both the Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament titles a year ago and three conference titles in the last four years.
The Tigers four-game opening home stand concludes on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when LSU hosts Louisiana-Monroe. Fans are reminded to note the afternoon tip for the game that many pre-season publications have listed as a night contest.
