BATON ROUGE — Regan Hood was named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team and Lauren Leaumont earned SEC All-Freshman team honors for the LSU volleyball team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Junior Beth Cowley was also recognized for her community service and was named to the SEC Good Works Team.
Hood led the Tigers in kills, kills per game, blocks solos and total blocks this season. The junior outside hitter and middle blocker ranked fifth in the league in overall kills per game and kills per game in conference matches. With 463 kills, she became the first LSU player since Carmis Franks in 1996 to record 450 kills in a season. In addition, she had a career blocks per game average of 1.05 with 253 career blocks, good enough for seventh place in Tiger volleyball history.
The Carrollton, Texas, native led the team in kills in 25 of LSU’s 29 matches. In addition, she recorded seven double-double and a triple-double, the first at LSU since Meagan Davis had a triple-double in 2001.
Leaumont led the team in digs and digs per game, while ranking second on the team in kills and kills per game. The outside hitter from New Orleans led the team with 10 double-double. On nine occasions she led the team in kills. She also led the team in digs eight times. Against Mississippi State she recorded a career high 24 kills, while tying her career high with 16 digs.
Cowley helped to coordinate the annual Halloween BOO-zar, which allows children to trick-or-treat with LSU athletes. The setter also is involved in coordinating the Christmas Toy Drive, in which teams sponsor disadvantaged children and provide them with Christmas presents through the Families First Program. In addition, the Louisville, Ky., native visits children in a local hospital, where she reads, plays games and signs autographs for sick children in Our Lady of the Lake’s Children’s Center.
The All-SEC teams were selected by the league’s 11 head coaches. A total of 15 players were named to the first and second team. The All-Freshman team made its debut this year and consisted of seven players. The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
