BATON ROUGE — Junior College standout Mark Growcott last week became the first player to sign with the LSU men’s tennis team for the 2004-05 season.
Growcott, who attends Tyler Junior College, is a native of Kingswinford, England. He led Tyler last season to a No. 1 national junior college team ranking and was a member of the No. 1-ranked doubles team. He was the third-ranked junior college singles player.
“Growcott is an explosive player with all the shots,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “He will impact our team immediately.”
Growcott and partner Jordan Freitas won the ITA Small College National Championships this fall. They received an at large bid to participate in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, where they beat three Division I opponents to claim the consolation doubles championship.
