Tigers Welcome Southeastern All-Stars for Final Tune-up

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, with its season opener just a few days away, plays its final exhibition game Monday at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center against the Southeastern All-Stars.

Tickets for the game are $5 and available through the LSU Athletic Ticket Office during the day on Monday and at the upper ticket windows of the Maravich Center beginning 90 minutes prior to tip off. The game will be broadcast in the Baton Rouge area only on the LSU student station, KLSU, 91.1 FM.

The Tigers open the regular season Friday (Nov. 21) at the Maravich Center at 7 p.m. against Southern University. The game is the start of a four-game opening home stand through the month of November with games on Nov. 24 against McNeese State, Nov. 26 against Troy State and Nov. 29 against Louisiana Monroe. The games on Nov. 21, 24 and 26 will tip at 7 p.m., while the Nov. 29 game goes at 2 p.m., not 7 p.m. as listed in some publications.

The Southeastern All-Stars are 0-5 coming into the LSU game having lost to Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, New Orleans, Indiana and Georgia. Wallace Prather has been the leading scorer for the All-Stars in three of the games.

LSU, for the second straight year, lost its opening exhibition game to Global Sports, this year’s score was 68-64. The Tigers were 18 down 45 seconds into the second half but came back and had the ball and a chance to tie in the game’s final 10 seconds. Antonio Hudson, the junior from Grambling, led LSU with 15 points.

Jaime Lloreda, LSU’s leading returning scorer and rebounder, will again sit the game out as part of his “disciplinary package” from Coach John Brady for violation of team policies earlier this summer. In the Global Sports game, Xavier Whipple, Hudson and Darrel Mitchell started at the three guard positions with Brandon Bass and Mildon Ambres at the forwards. Bass had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Ambres played 10 minutes and left the team the next day. It is possible that Darnell Lazare or Ross Neltner could fill that spot on Monday.

Individual game tickets for the 2003-04 men’s basketball season go on sale Wednesday at the LSU Athletic Ticket Office. The five-game, four-ticket each Super Saturday package is on sale now at the Ticket Office. For more information, call 225-578-2184 or 800-960-8587.
