NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a 15-over par 299 on Tuesday in the final round of the abbreviated Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate to tie for seventh at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
“Well, we have got some things to fix, that is what we figured out after today,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “We really battled some tough weather but we can play better than we did and we will.”
The 18-team field battled rain and wind today and Monday which shortened the tournament to just two rounds. UAB fired a 5-under par 563 to win the team title, placing 14 strokes ahead of second-place Texas A&M. South Carolina placed third followed by host and defending champion Vanderbilt in fourth, and Ole Miss finished fifth.
The Tigers shot a 7-over par in Monday’s round and were only three shots out of second place coming into Tuesday’s play but LSU struggled toward the end of the day on Tuesday, shooting 10-over par during the final three holes.
Junior Jeff Riemann led LSU by tying for 12th place at 3-over par 145 to record the best finish of his career. Senior Garrett Prather tied for 21st place, shooting a 4-over par 146. Andrew Lanahan, a transfer from Midland Junior College, tied for 31st place in his LSU debut, shooting a 6-over par 148.
Junior Heath West struggled on Tuesday, shooting a 7-over par 78 to tie for 49th place. Sophomore Aaron Smith shot a 10-over 152 to tie for 53rd.
UAB’s Chris Cousins and Texas A&M’s Stephen Reed tied for medalist honors after Reed jumped up from a tie for 15th place after one round as he fired a 6-under 65 Tuesday. Cousins shot 67-69 as each player finished at 6-under 136.
The Tigers will next participate in the Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 29-30 at Bear Ridge Golf Club in Waco, Texas.
