BATON ROUGE — LSU linebacker Lionel Turner is one of 90 players from across the country who have been named to the watch list for the Butkus Award, the awards committee announced on Friday.
The Butkus Award is presented annually to the nation’s top linebacker. Last year, LSU linebacker Bradie James was a semifinalist for the award.
Turner, a junior from Walker, La., is coming off a season in which he started 11 games for the Tigers and recorded 71 tackles, including 9.5 for losses. He also added three sacks in 2002 for the Tigers.
Turner, who enters his second season as a starter for the Tigers, has 78 career tackles in 23 games.
