BATON ROUGE — Two high school pitchers from the state of Texas have signed national letters-of-intent with the LSU baseball program. Right-handed pitcher Kyle Perry of Ball High in Galveston and right-handed pitcher Will Goodwin of Episcopal High in Houston will enroll at LSU next week.
The signings of Perry and Goodwin complete LSU’s recruiting for the 2004 season. The Tigers will welcome a total of 13 signees next week when the squad reports to campus.
Perry, who was selected in the 28th round of the 2003 draft by the Atlanta Braves, earned all-district honors last season, and he helped lead Ball High to a district title in 2001. The 6-1, 190-pound hurler features a 91 mph fastball, and he is a lifelong LSU fan that attended the Tigers’ summer camps while in high school.
Goodwin helped lead Episcopal High to a school-record 30 wins last season, as he posted a 9-1 mark on the mound. The right-hander features a fastball clocked at 88 mph.
Classes begin at LSU on Monday, August 25, and the 2004 squad will participate in conditioning and individual drills with the coaches until fall practice starts in late September. The Tigers are scheduled to open the ’04 season on Friday, Feb. 13, at Central Florida.
LSU completed the 2003 season ranked No. 5 in the nation by Baseball America magazine after capturing the SEC title and advancing to the College World Series.
