WASHINGTON — Former LSU softball player and graduate assistant coach Shaunte’ Fremin has been named the head softball coach at George Washington University, a program that will enter its second season of competition in 2003-04.
Fremin has served the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Georgia softball team, the 2003 Southeastern Conference champions.
A 2000 graduate of LSU, Fremin was a four-year starter and team captain (1997-2000) who was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team in 1999 and 2000. She served as a graduate assistant on the LSU staff in 2001 and was part of the 2001 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year as LSU advanced to their first Women’s College World Series.
During the off-season, Fremin oversee the Shaunte’ Fremin Power Softball Fastpitch Camp, which teaches players ages 8-18 all phases of fastpitch softball. Fremin also has been a head instructor at the Gold Medal Sports Academy in Metairie, a defensive skills instructor at various private camps across Louisiana and Texas and an instructor at the LSU softball camp.
The Colonials have 12 incoming recruits for the 2004 season as the team looks to improve on its 3-36 record from its inaugural season.
