Former Tiger Makes His Leap Toward the World's Best

Former LSU Track Athletes Shine on Final Day of USATF

PALO ALTO, Calif. — A day after earning runner-up honors in the men’s long jump at the USA Track and Field Championships, former LSU track star, Walter Davis, returned to action finishing second in the triple jump at Stanford’s Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Davis, the most decorated man in Tiger track history, recorded a jump of 57-7 to finish behind eventual champion, Kenta Bell (57-8 1/2). Also competing in the triple jump was former Tiger All-American LeVar Anderson. Anderson placed eighth among the field of competitors, jumping 52-7 1/2.

In the women’s triple jump, current Lady Tiger Nicole Toney nearly cracked the nation’s top 10, jumping 43-7 1/4 to finish 11th overall.

Other former LSU standouts in action during the final day of competition at the USA Championships, included Russ Buller in the pole vault and Joyce Bates in the 100-meter hurdles. Buller, a five-time All-American in the pole vault while at LSU, finished sixth in the event clearing 18-2 1/2.

Bates just missed making the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, placing 10th in the semifinals with a time of 12.93.
