Lynam, Wiese Named LSWA Softball Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU pitcher Tessa Lynam and third baseman Julie Wiese earned this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors for softball.

Lynam posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA for the week, not allowing a run in 14 innings pitched. The sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga., allowed just three hits in two-complete games. In her league start of the week, she was a bunt single away from a no-hitter against Ole Miss and for the week, teams hit only .065 against her.

She did not allow an extra-base hit on the week and upped her shutout total for the season to five. She also helped the Tigers at the plate with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored with a .643 slugging percentage for the week.

Wiese, also named the SEC Hitter of the Week, went 9-for-17 (.529) on the week with a 1.412 slugging percentage. The junior from Baton Rouge recorded four home runs, three doubles, eight RBIs and eight runs scored in five games as LSU went 5-0 for the week.

Wiese tied the school record with two home runs against Southeastern Louisiana and recorded a hit in every game last week and enters this week with a seven-game hitting streak. Wiese had a two-run home run in the 10th inning of the conference series opener with Ole Miss, to cut the Rebels lead to 6-5, a game the Tigers would eventually win in 11 innings.

Others nominated include Joe Webre of the University of Louisiana Lafayette for hitter of the week and Brooke Mitchell of Louisiana Lafayette and Amanda Ortego of Northwestern State were nominated for pitcher of the week.
