AUBURN, Ala. — Three members of the LSU diving team competed in the first day of competition at the 2003 NCAA Zone B Diving Regional on Friday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn.
Senior Kyle Van Arsdall placed 12th in the 1-meter final with a score of 553.45. Van Arsdall, the lone male diver for LSU this season, will compete in the 3-meter on Saturday and then the 10-meter platform on Sunday. Kentucky All-American Clayton Moss placed first in the event with a score of 725.00
Senior All-American Barb Gorst placed 22nd in the women’s 3-meter competition with a score of 255.75 while sophomore Jessica Wantz, competing in her first NCAA regional, placed 27th with a score of 247.95. Alabama’s Lane Bassham won the event with a score of 534.65.
The meet continues on Saturday with the women’s 1-meter competition at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s 3-meter at 3:30 p.m. The regional concludes on Sunday with the women’s platform at 10 a.m. and then the men’s platform at 12:30 p.m.
Twelve women out of 40 will advance from the regional to the NCAA Championships while 13 of 32 men advance.
