Tigers Look For Season Sweep of State on the Road

Dupree Named to Coaches’ All-SEC Second-Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU forward Ronald Dupree was voted All-SEC for the third consecutive year, earning a spot on the second team as selected by the league coaches and announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference.

Dupree and the Tigers will play Arkansas in the first round of the SEC Tournament Thursday at 2:15 p.m. at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. LSU has won five straight games and has an overall record of 19-9 and 8-8 in the SEC, finishing in a tie for second in the SEC West.

Dupree averaged 16 points in the regular season and 7.8 rebounds a game, leading the team in scoring. In SEC play, the Biloxi native averaged 16.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds. His field goal percentage of 53.6 percent is third in the league and the highest of his career.

SEC Champion Kentucky dominated the 2003 SEC coaches’ postseason awards as head coach Tubby Smith was chosen SEC Coach of the Years by his peers and guard Keith Bogans was selected SEC Player of the Year. Florida guard Anthony Roberson earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors.

Florida’s Mat Bonner, Georgia’s Jarvis Hayes, Mississippi State’s Mario Austin and Tennessee’s Ron Slay were also first team All-SEC selections.

Joining Dupree on the second team were Erwin Dudley of Alabama, Marquis Daniels of Auburn, Ezra Williams of Georgia, Marquis Estill of Kentucky and Matt Freije of Vanderbilt.

With Roberson on the SEC All-Freshman team were Kennedy Winston of Alabama, Jonathon Modica of Arkansas, Matt Walsh of Florida and C. J. Watson of Tennessee.

Dupree was on the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District VII team that encompasses the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Other Louisiana players on the team were: Hector Romero of New Orleans, Kirby Lemons of Louisiana Monroe and Michael Southall of Louisiana-Lafayette.
