Men's Tennis Tries to Secure Place in SEC West

Tigers Lose to Archrival Texas A&M, 5-2

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The 23rd-ranked LSU men’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 19 Texas A&M at College Station, Texas on Saturday afternoon.
Cory Ross and Sebastian Rutka got the Tigers off to a good start at the No. 2 doubles position by beating John Nallon and Matt Loucks, 8-1. However, A&M rallied with victories at Nos. 1 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead.
Fifth-ranked Lester Cook and Ante Matijevic downed No. 24 Jason Hazley and Bryan Fisher, 8-5, in the feature match up on court one.
The Aggies built their lead to 3-0 in singles with quick victories at the Nos 1 and 3 spots from Ryan Newport and Matijevic, respectively.
Ross answered for LSU with a 7-6 (5), 6-2, win at No. 6 over Nallon. Loucks clinched the match shortly after with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over freshman Paul White.
The Tigers would score another point when the only three-set match came to a close. On court two, Peter Richman had the biggest win of the day as he came back to upset the 71st-ranked Cook, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
