ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — LSU’s men’s cross country team finished fourth and the women placed seventh Saturday at the New Mexico-hosted Lobo Invitational.
Collecting 160 points the Tigers finished behind champion New Mexico (21), runner-up Air Force (42) and third-place finisher UTEP (127).
Sophomore Jarrett Roche led LSU in the 8K race finishing 25th overall with a time 25.54. Fellow sophomores Matthew Carroll and Ben Schumaker ran neck and neck to secure the Tigers’ top-three places finishing 27th and 28th, respectively, with times of 25:58 and 25:59.
On the women’s side, LSU’s 222 team points placed them seventh among the 11-team field. Air Force took home the team crown with just 39 points, while New Mexico (61) came in second and Texas Tech placed third (78).
Running in her first race of the season, sophomore Katie Denton led all Lady Tiger runners, placing 26th in the 6K race with a time of 24:21. Sophomore Katrina Flanders turned in LSU’s second-best performance, finishing 44th with a 25:21 clocking. Freshman Michelle Hymel followed in 46th (25:26).
The LSU cross country team will take next weekend off as it prepares for its only home meet of the season, the LSU Invitational, Sat., Sept. 28 at Highland Road Park.
