BLUEFIELD, Va. — Two-time defending champion, former LSU golfer Meredith Duncan, put herself in good position Monday in the first of two qualifying rounds for the 64-player match play field.
Playing the par-71 Fincastle Country Club, Duncan posted a 1-over par round of 72, good enough for a tie for ninth place, five shots out of the qualifying lead, entering today’s final 18 holes of stroke play.
LSU junior-to-be Devon Day of Greer, S.C., posted a 9-over 81 and stands two shots out of what is presently 64th place after one round.
Duncan will defend this title and her North-South crown next week at Pinehurst, N. C., before playing in the United States Women’s Open, July 4-7.
