Crescent City Tigers to Host 59th-Annual LSU Sports Banquet

Sneed Named LSWA Pitcher of the Week; Hill Honored

BATON ROUGE — LSU softball pitcher Britni Sneed made it five-for-five as Louisiana softball pitcher of the week as the weekly softball and baseball honors for Louisiana college players was announced Tuesday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Sneed was joined as softball hitter of the week by Jerie Alexander of Louisiana -Lafayette, while pitcher Jared Gothreaux of McNeese State and LSU hitter Aaron Hill captured the baseball honors.

Nominations in both sports are submitted by school SIDs, who vote on the softball nominees to determine a winner. The baseball nominees are given to a panel of LSWA members who select the winning entries.

Sneed fired a complete game one-hitter against No. 21 Georgia on her way to a 2-0 weekend in three starts. In 17 innings, she allowed just four hits and struck out 25 Bulldogs, the top hitting team in the Southeastern Conference. She moved into 10th place in NCAA history in career strikeouts with 1,107. Georgia batted just 0.73 against Sneed on the weekend.

LSU’s Hill was 9-for-13 (.692) at the plate, with eight RBI, a .714 on-base percentage and a 1.154 slugging percentage in three games last week. He was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI against Southeastern Louisiana.

The sophomore was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI in the Tigers’ Saturday win over Mississippi State. Hill hit his first home run of the season in the first inning. Four hits in a game happened for the second time for Hill in his career as he finished 6-for-9 against the Bulldogs in the rain-shortened series.
