RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — LSU women’s golfer Meredith Duncan struggled over the final three holes to shoot a six-over 78 in the first round of the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championships at the Mission Hills Country Club’s Diana Shore Championship Course.
The leader on the windy first round of the LPGA’s first major of the season was Liselotte Neumann at 3-under 69.
Duncan was at 2-over 38 after the first nine holes, bogeying the seventh and eighth holes. On the back nine, Duncan bogeyed the par four 13th hole, missed a short birdie opportunity on the par-3 14th and then finished up with a bogey on the 16th and a double-bogey seven on the difficult par 5 18th hole.
Duncan’s 78 puts her in a tie for 71st place going into Friday’s second round. The Shreveport senior tees off at 9:30 a.m. CST.
