ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU women’s golf team shot its best round of the tournament Sunday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, but had to settle for 14th place in the 54-hole event which finished at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
LSU finished Sunday with a 22-over 310 score, one shot better than Friday’s opening round, but the Lady Tigers finished at 77-over par 941 (311-320-310). Florida and Auburn shot identical 2-over 290 scores, with Florida retaining its one-shot lead over the Auburn Tigers to win the tournament title at 15-over par 879. Auburn’s 16-over 800 was 14-shots better than host Georgia at 894 on the same course in which the Southeastern Conference Women’s Championship will be contested on in four weeks.
Jeanne Cho of Florida shot a 1-over 73 on the day and that was enough to be the difference as she captured the individual title at even par 216 (75-68-73). Anna Gertsson of Mississippi State, in the lead after 36-holes, finished one-shot back after a 4-over 76 in the final round. Gertsson’s 71-70-76 – 217 (1-over) was tied with Angela Jerman of Georgia (73-72-72).
Shreveport senior Meredith Duncan was the best of the Tigers for the 54-holes with a 9-over 225 (75-74-76). The best round of the day belonged to Lindy Hitdlebaugh, the senior from Grenta, who posted a 3-over 75. Brooke Shelton , the freshman for LSU, had a 78 and Devon Day’s 81 was the other counting score.
The Lady Tigers now return home to get ready for the team’s host event, the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, April 5-7, at the school’s University Club.
