ATHENS, Ga. — For the second straight weekend, the second round of a golf tournament proves to be the LSU women’s golf teams undoing as they drop down to 13th place here Saturday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
LSU posted a 32-over round of 320 on the second day of the tournament, nine shots higher than the opening day, to finish Saturday at 55-over par 631, in 13th place in the 18-team field Florida posted an even par round of 288 to move past Auburn and host Georgia into first place at 13-over 589. Auburn is in second, one shot back at 590 with Georgia in third at 20-over 596.
Anna Gertsson of Mississippi State continues to hold the individual lead, following up her 1-under 71 with a 2-under 70 for a 36-hole total of 3-under 141. Only one other player, Jeanne Cho of Florida, is under par after 36 holes, at 1-under 143. Cho shot 4-under 68 on Saturday.
LSU senior Meredith Duncan continued near the top 10 with rounds of 75 on Friday and 74 on Saturday to stand in a group in 11th place at 5-over par 149. Tiger freshman Brooke Shelton improved one stroke from day one, shooting 77 on Saturday to finish at 11-over 155, in a tie for 34th. The Tigers also had to count an 83 from Lindy Hitdlebaugh and one of the 86s shot by Devon Day.
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
