BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — The LSU Lady Tigers golf team improved its score nine strokes in the final round here Sunday of the Lady Gamecock Classic, but still fell back one spot to 12th place in the final standings of the 54-hole tournament at South Carolina’s University Club.
Duke would win the event for a the-fifth time with scored of 290-298-298 for a 54-hole total of 874, 10-over par on the 5,996 yard layout. That was 12 shot better than Texas at 886 with host South Carolina in third at 31-over 895.
LSU had rounds of 302-319-310 for a 54-hole total of 931, 67-over par.
Shreveport senior Meredith Duncan had a strong final round of even par 72 and that moved her into a group tied for 12th place at 7-over par 223 (74-77-72). Duke’s Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh won the individual title with a par on the first playoff hole after tying with Kristy McPherson of South Carolina for medalist honors at 1-under 215 for 54 holes.
On the final day, LSU also counted a 76 from freshman Brooke Shelton, a 79 from Lindy Hitdlebaugh and an 83 from Isabel Dornellas.
LSU will next play in the Liz Murphey Classic at Athens, Ga., this Friday through Sunday.
