Softball Team Travels to Thibodaux For Re-Match

BATON ROUGE — The fifth-ranked LSU softball team will complete its home-and-home series with Nicholls State on Tuesday when it travels to Thibodaux, La., for a 5 p.m. game with the Colonels.

The Tigers (14-5) won this season’s earlier meeting, 12-0, in five innings.

In that game, three LSU pitchers combined to pitch a two-hit shutout.

Offensively, Trena Peel and Blair Smith led the Tigers 13-hit barrage with two a piece. Freshman Tessa Lynam also added a two-run homer which was her first of the season.

“We always talk about competing against ourselves,” said LSU coach Yvette Giroaurd. “We just want to go down there and compete like we are capable of.”

For the year, LSU has 10 players hitting .250 or better led by Peel’s .407 clip. As a team, the Tigers hit .284 while holding opponents to .187.

The game will be LSU’s final non-conference tilt before heading into Southeastern Conference action this weekend against Florida.

“This is our last opportunity to sharpen every part of our game up before what we all get excited about, which is the SEC,” said Girouard.

This past weekend, the Tigers scored two shutout victories over UAB and Long Island in the Purple and Gold Challenge, which was shortened due to inclement weather on two of the three days.
