BATON ROUGE — LSU senior golfer Meredith Duncan was named by the league office the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for her victorious performance in last weekend’s SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
Duncan won the event with rounds of 69-70-75 for a 54-hole total of 4-over 214 over the newly renovated par 70 University of Florida Golf Course. She was seven strokes clear of her competition.
For Duncan it was her second consecutive collegiate victory as the 2001 United States Amateur Champion also captured the final event of the fall 2001 season, the Furman Lady Paladin. Duncan also became just the third Lady Tiger to win back-to-back events and only the seventh Lady Tiger to ever win multiple golf events in their career.
The Shreveport native also moved up in the national rankings, going to No. 7 in the Sagarin individual rankings with her victory in Florida.
LSU’s next event is the Lady Gamecock Invitational in mid-March.
