Swimming & Diving Teams Lose to Texas A&M

Watkins Highlights All-Star Diving Meet

ORLANDO, Fla. — The LSU diving team competed at the All-Star Diving Invitational this past weekend at Orlando, Fla.

Four members of the team competed in three open diving events, the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving events. In the women’s 1-meter event, LSU All-American Jamie Watkins finished fifth out of 27 competitors with a score of 237.35. Watkins placed fourth in the 3-meter competition with a score of 459.55 and finished second in the platform with a score of 460.05.

Holly Winters finished fourth in the platform with a score of 426.15, and 26th in the 3-meter competition with a final score of 171.75. On the men’s side, team captain Jace Pitre placed in the top 15 in all three categories. Pitre finished 13th in the platform, with a score of 390.40. In the 1-meter he finished with a total of 292.60 and scored a 305.05 in the 3-meter competition.

Kyle VanArdsall finished 11th in the 3-meter with a score of 499.20, seventh in the 1-meter with a score of 303.30, and 10th in the platform with a final score of 481.10.

Next up for the team is the Southeastern Conference Championships on Feb. 18-23 at Fayetteville, Ark. The preliminaries and finals of the women’s one-meter and men’s three-meter competitions will be held on Monday, Feb. 18. The finals of the men’s one meter and women’s three-meter competitions will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The preliminaries and finals of the platform competition will be held on Wednesday the 20th.
