BATON ROUGE — After undergoing an magnetic resonance imaging on Sunday, it was revealed that LSU running back LaBrandon Toefield has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Toefield, who injured the knee in the second quarter of Saturday’s 31-20 win over Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference championship game, will miss LSU’s game against Illinois in the Sugar Bowl on January 1.
Toefield, a sophomore from Independence, La., will be re-evaluated after final exams this week and he will undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the next couple of weeks. Toefield suffered the same injury to his right knee in high school.
In 12 games this year for the Tigers, Toefield rushed for 992 yards and tied an SEC single-season record with 19 rushing touchdowns. Toefield also led the SEC with 114 points. Toefield earned first team all-SEC honors this year for the Tigers.
