LUBBOCK, Texas — The No. 21-ranked LSU Lady Tiger basketball team wraps up non-conference action this season in Lubbock, Texas, as they face No. 15 Colorado in the Triple Crown Classic at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the United Spirit Arena.
The game will be the second in an SEC-Big 12 doubleheader and follow the Texas Tech-Vanderbilt game at noon.
The contest will be broadcast live and can be seen on WBTR, Baton Rouge cable channel 22.
“This game will be extremely challenging for us,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “Colorado is a very good team with an impressive record. They have won four of their last five games and will be well prepared for us on Saturday.”
The Lady Tigers (7-3) have won four of their last five games and are riding a three-game winning streak after holding Prairie View to a school record low 26 points on Dec. 22.
Colorado (9-3) is coming off a loss to nationally ranked Florida on Dec. 21. LSU and Colorado have met just once previously, with the Lady Tigers walking away, 63-60 winners as part of the Ohio State Buckeye Classic in 1989 in Columbus, Ohio.
The Lady Buffaloes are winless against Southeastern Conference opponents this season, falling to both Vanderbilt and Florida earlier in the year.
This will be the second Big 12 opponent that LSU has faced this season, falling to Texas, 65-63 on the road on Nov. 29.
Either LSU or Colorado will pick up its first win against a nationally ranked opponent this season. Like the Lady Tigers, the Lady Buffs have not defeated a ranked opponent in three attempts.
LSU is heading to possibly the toughest stretch of the 2001-02 season. The Lady Tigers face nationally ranked opponents in their next four games, three of which are on the road. After facing Colorado, LSU travels to open SEC action at Georgia on Jan. 3. The Lady Tigers then host Florida on Jan. 10 before taking to the road again to face Tennessee on Jan. 13.
