BATON ROUGE — The 23rd-ranked LSU women’s basketball team will host Prairie View on Saturday at noon in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to close out the pre-holiday schedule.

LSU (6-3) is finishing a stretch of four games in seven days, defeating Mercer and Rice after losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to Michigan. After facing Prairie View, the Lady Tigers have one non-conference game remaining before starting Southeastern Conference play in January.

“We played really well against Rice on Thursday and we are looking to go into the Christmas holiday on a high note,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “This game will give us an opportunity to get some of our younger players extra playing time before starting our conference schedule and I hope the fans will come out to see us close out the home non-conference schedule.”

Prairie View (2-5) won its first two games of the season, against a pair of NAIA schools, before losing five straight, including an 80-point loss at TCU. LSU has never lost to the Lady Panthers and posted the largest margin of victory in school history in a 104-28 victory (76 points) over the Prairie View in 1995.

LSU is 41-5 (.891) all-time against schools from the SWAC. The Lady Tigers have played eight of the SWAC schools in their history, going undefeated against Alabama State (1-0), Alcorn State (7-0), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-0), Grambling (2-0), Prairie View (2-0) and Texas Southern (1-0). LSU’s only losses have come against Jackson State (10-2) and Southern (17-3).

The Lady Tigers will close out the non-conference schedule after Christmas against No. 12 Colorado in the Triple Crown Classic in Lubbock, Texas on Dec. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
