Toefield Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s record-setting running back LaBrandon Toefield underwent a 90-minute surgical procedure to repair a torn ligament in his left knee on Tuesday at the Baton Rouge General Health Center.

Toefield, who tied an SEC record with 19 rushing touchdowns this season, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the second quarter in LSU’s 31-20 win over Tennessee in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 8.

Tuesday’s surgery was performed by Dr. Brent Bankston and Dr. Larry Ferachi and involved the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and repair of a torn lateral cartilage.

“The surgery went very well and we expect a full recovery,” Bankston said. “LaBrandon will begin and aggressive rehabilitation program by the end of the week and will continue through the spring and summer.”

Toefield, a sophomore from Independence, La., rushed for 992 yards this season and was a first team All-SEC pick in helping the Tigers to their first outright SEC title since 1986.
