BATON ROUGE — LSU’s entire offensive unit, along with Bradie James and Jarvis Green on defense and Donnie Jones on special teams, have been named the Tigers’ Players of the Week following the 35-21 win over Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
Against Alabama, the Tiger offense rolled up 611 total yards, including a school-record 528 yards passing, in the victory over the Crimson Tide.
Quarterback Rohan Davey completed a school-record 35 passes on 44 attempts for 582 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The 528 yards passing is the most-ever against the Crimson Tide in the history of their program and the most by an LSU quarterback.
Wide receiver Josh Reed set Southeastern Conference records for receptions (19) and yards receiving (293) in the contest, while running back LaBrandon Toefield rushed for three touchdowns, running his total to an SEC-best 13 for the season.
“The entire offense played well,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “The line did a good job of blocking and we had a bunch of guys make a lot of plays.”
Defensively, linebacker Bradie James led the Tigers with 14 tackles, 12 of which were solo stops. Defensive end Jarvis Green added five tackles, including a pair of sacks for the Tigers. With two sacks against Alabama, Green moved his career total to 19, which ties Chuck Wiley for fourth place in school history.
On special teams, punter Donnie Jones averaged 43.7 yards on two kicks.
Jones had a long punt of 49 yards. For the year, Jones is averaging 43.2 yards per punt, which ranks fourth in the SEC.
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE LSU HALL OF FAME MUSEUM: The gloves that wide receiver Josh Reed wore to catch an SEC record 19 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown will be added to the LSU Hall of Fame Museum this week. In addition, the game ball which quarterback Rohan Davey used to throw for an LSU record 528 yards on a school-record 35 completions will also be put on display. The 528 yards passing by Davey ties Jared Lorenzen of Kentucky for the second-highest total in SEC history. Georgia’s Eric Zeier holds the SEC record of 544 yards passing against Southern Miss in 1993. The LSU Hall of Fame Museum is located on the first floor of the LSU Athletic Administration Building.
REED LEADS THE NATION IN RECEIVING YARDS PER GAME: LSU wide receiver Josh Reed moved atop the nation in receiving yards per game with his 293-yard performance against Alabama on Saturday. Through eight games, Reed is averaging 148.9 yards receiving a contest. In addition, Reed ranks second in the nation in receptions per contest with an average of 8.0 a game. Kevin Curtis of Utah State leads the nation with 9.57 catches per game. Reed’s average of 148.9 yards per game puts him on pace to break the SEC record of 132.9 set by Carlos Alvarez of Florida in 1969. Reed also ranks first in the SEC and eighth in the nation in all-purpose yards with 163.9 yards per contest.
Reed’s 338 all-purpose yards (293 receiving, 40 kickoff returns, 5 punt returns) against Alabama was the second-highest total in school history trailing only the 376 yards by Kevin Faulk against Houston in 1996.
