Swimming & Diving Travels to Alabama For Dual Meet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The LSU swimming and diving team will travel to Tucaloosa, Ala., on Friday to face Alabama in a key Southeastern Conference meet.

“This is an important meet for our team,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “It will be a really tough meet because Alabama is very good.”

The dual-meet will consist of 16 events at will begin at 3 p.m. at the Alabama Aquatic Center. LSU and Alabama faced each other last weekend in the SEC West Quad Meet at Fayetteville, Ark. Auburn and host Arkansas joined Alabama and LSU for the meet.

The meet with LSU on Friday will be the Tide’s second meet of the season and first at home. Alabama’s first meet of the season was the Quad Meet last weekend. LSU enters the meet with a record of 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in the SEC. The Women own a perfect 5-0 record this season and are 3-0 in the conference. The men are 2-1 and 1-1 in the SEC. The women have already beaten Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky this season. They beat both Kentucky and Tennessee at a three-team meet at Knoxville, Tenn., for the first time in years earlier this month.

“I am really impressed with the performance of all our athletes so far this season,” said Cavana. “This is a great group of athletes, a real cohesive unit that I am proud to coach.”

LSU’s next meet following the trip to Alabama is the Nike Cup Invitational at Chapel Hill, N.C., Nov. 15-17. The Tigers next home meet is not until January, 2002.
