Football Coaches Name Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Michael Clayton on offense, Norman LeJeune and Randall Gay on defense and Domanick Davis on special teams have been named LSU’s players of the week, LSU coach Nick Saban announced on Sunday.

Clayton, a freshman wide receiver from Baton Rouge, scored both of LSU’s offensive touchdowns, one on a 29-yard run with the other being a 39-yard one-handed reception.

LeJeune, a junior defensive back from Brusly, recorded eight tackles, seven of which were solo stops. LeJeune also had a tackle for a loss as well as two passes defended. Gay, a sophomore defensive back from Brusly, had eight tackles, six of which were unassisted. Gay also intercepted an Eli Manning pass in the second quarter.

Davis, a junior from Breaux Bridge, returned a punt 71-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to pull LSU within 21-17. The punt return for a touchdown marked the first for an LSU player since 1998. Davis also added 63 yards on three kickoff returns as well as 99 yards rushing on 21 attempts. Davis finished with 266 all-purpose yards, which ties for the fifth-highest total in school history.
