BATON ROUGE — The LSU coaching staff named six players — two each on offense, defense and special teams — as players of the week following the Tigers’ 48-17 season opening win over Tulane Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
On offense, junior split end Jerel Myers and sophomore tailback LaBrandon Toefield shared the award. Myers caught a team-best eight passes for 59 yards, while Toefield rushed for 58 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. The three rushing touchdowns set a career-high for the Independence, La., native.
Defensively, junior defensive back Damien James and senior defensive end Jarvis Green were honored. James recorded seven tackles (six solo), including one for a loss, to go along with an interception, while Green had five tackles and had five quarterback pressures for the Tigers.
On special teams, Elice Parker and Adrian Mayes shared the honor. Parker tackled Tulane punter Casey Roussel for a 14-yard loss deep in LSU territory, while Mayes recovered a fumbled punt by Tulane’s Lynaris Elphage that setup a field goal for the Tigers. Parker’s tackle of Roussel led to an LSU touchdown and a 31-10 Tiger lead late in the second quarter.
