Former LSU Shortstop Ryan Theriot made his minor league debut last week in Daytona, Fla. (Cubs-A). Theriot batted .200 (4-20) in his first five games of professional baseball. The middle infielder is most notable for scoring the game-winning run in the 2000 National Championship game.

A trade in the Majors involving a former Tiger took place this week. The Giants traded Armando Rios to the Pirates. Rios becomes the second Tiger in as many weeks to join the Pirates squad. Warren Morris began pulling duty for Pittsburgh last week after returning from a stint with the Pirates’ triple A squad.

Bryan Moore has dropped his average to .194 (18 of 93) in Johnson City, Tenn. (Cardinals, Rookie League). Moore is seeing moderate playing time thus for in Johnson City.

Jason Scobie (Brooklyn Cyclones -Mets, Single-A) pitched a few innings this past week lowering his ERA to 1.07. He did not earn a decision and remains at 1-0 for the summer.

For the second consecutive week Roy Corcoran (Gulf Coast Expos, Rookie) did not pitch for his team.

Four Former Tigers are in Triple A this week.

  • Brandon Larson’s (Louisville, Reds-AAA) average continued to hover in the same area at .243 (74 of 309). Larson has 10 HR and 42 RBI. Harry Berrios (Oklahoma City -Rangers, AAA raised his average to .253 with six home runs and 30 RBI.
  • Kurt Ainsworth Fresno (Giants, AAA) split his two decisions this week. He is now 7-9 on the season. In 119.1 innings pitched, Ainsworth has a 5.66 ERA and 121 strikeouts.
  • Brett Laxton (Omaha-Royals, AAA) only pitched three innings this week. He sports a 2-4 record and a 4.61 ERA in 70.1 innings pitched.

Five former LSU Tigers are playing in Double A this week.

  • Brad Cresse’s (El Paso -Diamondbacks, AA) average has risen six points to .271 (89 of 329) with nine HR and 56 RBI.
  • Ryan Jorgensen (West Tennessee -Cubs, AA) is beginning to see more playing time. He raised his average to .182 (6 of 33) this past week. Jorgensen also hit his first home run in Double-A.
  • Doug Thompson (Carolina-Rockies, AA) lost his only decision this week. Thompson is 1-3 with a 4.09 ERA in 22.0 innings pitched.
  • Patrick Coogan (New Haven Ravens-Cardinals, AA) only threw seven innings this past week. He’s 8-6 with a 5.06 ERA in 122.2 innings work. .
  • Chris Demouy (Arkansas Travelers-Angels, AA) saw little action this past week. He only pitched thee innings. He has a 2-0 record and a 5.91 ERA in 32 innings pitched.

LSU has 10 players competing in Single A.

  • Blair Barbier (Lansing-Cubs, A) continues to light up Single-A pitching. He is batting .338 (121 of 368) with 13 HR and 58 RBI.
  • Eddy Furniss (Visalia, Calif.-Athletics, A) also remains hot batting .344 (98 of 285) with 16 HR and 48 RBI.
  • Cedrick Harris (Lancaster-Diamondbacks, A) is batting .269 (56 of 208) with five home runs and 25 RBI.
  • Brad Hawpe (Asheville-Rockies, A) Hawpe’s average is about the same as last week at .264 (73 of 264). He has 18 2B, 16 HR and 55 RBI.
  • Jeff Leaumont (Tampa-Yankees, A) is batting .241 (60 of 249) with six HR and 22 RBI this season. Leaumont got only three at bats this past week.
  • Trey Hodges (Myrtle Beach-Braves, A) won his game this week. With the win he improves to 12-5 with a 3.05 ERA in 121 innings of work. Hodges has struck out 91 batters while walking only 15.
  • Brian Tallet (Kinston-Indians, A) won his lone decision this week. He maintains an 8-5 record, with a 2.90 ERA in 133.1 innings pitched.
  • Jake Esteves (San Jose-Giants, A) has a 0-2 record with a 12.27 ERA in 3.2 innings work this summer.
  • Brandon Bowe (Brevard County-Marlins, A) has a 6-4 record this summer. He has pitched 56 innings with an impressive 1.61 ERA.
  • Heath McMurray (Ogden, Utah-Brewers, R) lost his game this week dropping his record to 2-3. McMurray has a 3.28 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched.
