BATON ROUGE — The honors keep rolling in for LSU senior golfer and Shreveport native Meredith Duncan as Saturday was declared “Meredith Duncan Day” in the state of Louisiana by Louisiana Governor Mike Foster.
The declaration was announced and presented to Duncan at a special ceremony following play Saturday in the quarterly LSU Faculty-Staff Tournament at the LSU Golf Course. The presentation was made to Duncan by LSU Chancellor Dr. Mark Emmert and Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Mark Drennen. Among those also on hand for the event were LSU President Dr. William Jenkins and East Baton Rouge Mayor Bobby Simpson.
Duncan, who was also recognized Friday at the LSU Board of Supervisors meeting on the LSU campus, won the United States Women?s Amateur earlier this month in Andover, Kan., to cap a summer of three major amateur titles including a repeat win in the Women?s Western Amateur outside Chicago.
A part of the Proclamation reads: “Whereas, Meredith Duncan is a senior at Louisiana State University, a member of the Women?s Golf team…..Whereas, Meredith Duncan won the United States Women?s Amateur golf title on the 37th hole at the Flint Hills National Golf Club and is ranked Number 1 in the GolfWeek/Titleist Women?s Amateur rankings; and Whereas, Meredith Duncan is a repeat winner of the Western Women?s Amateur and winner of the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina; and Whereas, Meredith Duncan was named Independence Bowl Foundation?s Sportsperson of the Year.
“Now, Therefore, I, M. J. “Mike” Foster, Jr., Governor of the state of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim Aug. 25, 2001, as “Meredith Duncan Day” in the state of Louisiana.
Duncan and her Lady Tigers begin her senior season in a tournament at Vanderbilt on September 17.
