SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU senior women’s golfer Meredith Duncan’s 37-hole triumph in the Amateur final moved her to the top spot in the new GolfWeek/Titleist Women’s Amateur rankings that were released on Thursday.
Duncan picked up 50 points in the rankings, which are based on her play in select events over the last 52 weeks, to move from fifth to first after her amateur triumph.
The trophy was on public display in her home city of Shreveport Tuesday night as some 150 members and guests took part in a reception at East Ridge Country Club continuing the long line of interviews, phone calls and television shows Duncan has taken part in since winning with a two-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole of the Amateur against Nicole Perror of Chile.
Duncan, winner of the Western Amateur, the North-South and the United States Women’s Amateur, returns to LSU for her senior season later this month and the two-time first-team All-SEC and second-team All-American joins her LSU teammates and Coach Karen Bahnsen for the first tournament of the fall season, Sept. 17-18, in Nashville, in a tournament hosted by Vanderbilt.
