Former Tiger Duncan in Contention at LPGA Qualifying

Duncan Advances in Trans-National Match Play

FARGO, N.D. — Meredith Duncan, the LSU senior-to-be, made it 13 straight match play wins this summer in winning her first round match Wednesday in the 71st Women’s Trans National Amateur golf tournament taking place at the Fargo Country Club.

Duncan is 2-for-2 in match play events this summer, having already captured the prestigious Women’s Western Amateur and the Women’s North-South Amateur, winning six matches in each for the title.

Duncan advanced to match play with a 36-hole qualifying total of 145 after rounds of 75 and 2-under-par 70. She was tied for fourth in the qualifying which advanced 64 to match play. Also advancing was LSU women’s golfer Lindy Hitdlebaugh of Gretna, who lost in the opening round of match play to Allison Hanna, 4-and-3.

Duncan had little trouble with first-round opponent Julie Bonfantine, scoring a 6-and-5 triumph to advance to a second round match at 7:20 a.m. Thursday against Deb Means, who needed 19 holes to advance. The second round and the third round of match play will be completed on Thursday.

LSU sophomore Devon Day did not make the field of 64, but was at the top of first flight match play draw of 16, but she fell to Jennifer Thompson, 3-and-2.
