Three Women’s Golfers In Qualifying for Trans-National Amateur

FARGO, N.D. — LSU women’s golfer Meredith Duncan’s summer golf tour has taken her to this North Dakota city for the 71st Women’s Trans National Amateur Golf Championship.

Duncan comes in the hottest golfer in women’s amateur play, having successfully defended her crown in the Women’s Western Amateur, then scoring a dominating win in the North-South Amateur.

The first round of qualifying for the Shreveport native was on the agenda Monday with Duncan shooting a three-over 75, comfortably putting her in a tie for 15th place. Sixty-four golfers will advance to match play and after the first round, 66 golfers were at 79 or lower.

LSU senior-to-be Lindy Hitdlebaugh is also in position to advance to match play, shooting 78 in the opening round, while Lady Tiger sophomore Devon Day shot 79.

Qualifying concludes today (Tuesday) and match play begins on Wednesday.

In other LSU women’s golf news, LSU senior golfer Lindy Hitdlebaugh of Gretna, will join Duncan in the United States Women’s Amateur after qualifying in Houston, Texas, recently. Hitdlebaugh posted a 75 and advanced by way of a playoff with several golfers posting the number.

The Amateur begins July 30 in Andover, Kan.
