Zinsman Paces Tigers To Victory, 13-9

BATON ROUGE — Designated hitter Zeph Zinsman hit three homers and drove in seven runs Friday night to lead third-ranked LSU to a 13-9 victory over Duquesne in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU (7-2) extended its win streak to five games with Friday? ?s victory. Duquesne, playing in its season opener, fell to 0-1 with the loss.

The teams meet in Game 2 of the series at 2 p.m. Saturday in Alex Box Stadium. Zinsman, a junior from Cupertino, Calif., tied the LSU single-game home run record which had been set on eight previous occasions, most recently by Brad Cresse last season versus Louisiana-Monroe.

Left fielder Johnnie Thibodeaux contributed to the Tigers? ? 16-hit attack by going 3-for-4 at the plate with one homer, one double and three RBI.

LSU reliever Roy Corcoran (2-0) earned the win as he worked the final five innings, limiting the Dukes to two runs on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

LSU starter Jason Scobie was lifted after four innings, as he allowed seven runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Duquesne reliever Brian Lowder (0-1) was charged with the loss as he surrendered six runs on seven hits with two walks and no strikeouts.
