BATON ROUGE, La. — Five LSU players scored in double figures Thursday night as the 13th-ranked Lady Tigers clobbered Delaware State, 94-32, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

LSU, 8-3, won its sixth straight game and its 52nd consecutive non-conference home contest. Delaware State fell to 3-6 with the loss.

The Lady Tigers play host to North Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Maravich Assembly Center. LSU opens Southeastern Conference play next Thursday at No. 2 Tennessee.

“What we were trying to do with this game is increase our focus and intensity, because we start conference play one week from tonight,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “I like the fact that all of our players saw considerable minutes tonight. The players who needed some minutes got them, and those who needed a break were able to sit for a while.”

All 10 LSU players saw at least 10 minutes of action, as the Lady Tigers recorded their highest points total of the season. LSU shot 59.7 percent (37-62) from the field, while limiting Delaware State to just 25 percent (14-56) from the floor.

LSU outrebounded Delaware State, 47-29, and the Lady Tigers dished out 27 assists while forcing 29 DSU turnovers.

Guard Chavonne Stewart led Delaware State with 14 points, and guard Keysha Tiller added 10. Gunter said LSU must continue to increase its intensity level with its first SEC game just a week away.

“We have to be at our best, beginning Saturday against North Texas,” Gunter said. “They are a very good team, and they have played a difficult schedule. We stressed to our players that one week from tonight, we ll be playing in Knoxville. They know how important it is for us to be ready to play every night from here on out.”
