Women's Basketball Ranked Ninth in Coaches Poll

Lady Tigers Return Home to Face Prairie View

BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU women’s basketball team returns home to play host to Prairie View on Saturday after upsetting sixth-ranked Purdue on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind.

The LSU-Purdue game can be heard in Baton Rouge on WTGE 107.3 FM and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net. The game will also be televised by tape delay on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the Pelican Sports Network.

LSU (6-3), has won four straight games, including a 62-55 come-from-behind win over Purdue on Saturday. Prairie View (3-4) is fresh off a 74-70 loss to conference-rival Alcorn State on Saturday.

The Pantherettes are led by all-conference player Tanisha Lee who is averaging 15.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest.

Along with Lee, Prairie View is expected to start Elisha Winters a 6-0 junior (3.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg), Monica Grass, a 6-4 freshman (9.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg), Estrelita Elogada, a 5-8 senior (12.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg), and Shonta Greenwood, a 5-6 senior (10.3 ppg, 2.0 apg).

LSU will counter with 5-9 senior Marie Ferdinand (22.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg), 5-7 sophomore Kisha James (8.8 ppg, 2.6 apg) and 5-11 senior Angelia Crockett (2.0 ppg, 3.1 apg) at the guards. DeTrina White, a 5-11 junior, and Roneeka Hodges (11.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg) will occupy the forward positions.

Saturday’s game marks just the second meeting between the two schools. LSU defeated Prairie View, 104-28, at Baton Rouge in 1995. The 28 points is the fewest the Lady Tigers have ever given up in a game.
