Women’s Golf Splits Matches in Match Play Championship

ESTERO, Fla. — The LSU women’s golf team split its two matches on Saturday in the first day of the College Golf Foundation Match Play Championships and will play on Sunday for the consolation title.

The Lady Tigers, the sixth seed, lost to third seed Southern California in the opening round, 4-1, in which each of the five players on each team play a singles match.

That put LSU in the consolation round against seventh seeded Pepperdine, who lost to Duke in the opening round. The teams tied at 2.5 points each, but LSU advanced on the basis of holes won in the competition to advance to Sunday’s consolation round.

Duke and Georgia will meet in the championship match with LSU facing Auburn in the match for the consolation crown (fifth place).

Individual match results were unavailable Saturday evening.
