BATON ROUGE — The 2001 LSU softball team will host the third annual Fall Collegiate Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Tiger Park.
“We are excited about the chance to play this weekend,” said new head coach Yvette Girouard. “We have instilled a new system in the team, and now we get to see it in motion. We will be shorthanded with four starters out for the weekend, but I think the rest of the team is progressing.”
VIP International is the official sponsor of this weekend’s tournament, and the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation will be coordinating the event.
Teams participating in this year’s Collegiate Classic are LSU, Nicholls State, William Carey College, Southeastern Louisiana and Bossier Parish Community College. The teams will participate in a round-robin format.
All day admission to the event will be a donation of can goods at the gate that will benefit the Baton Rouge Food Bank for the holiday season.
Tournament play will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning between William Carey and Nicholls State on the LSU softball field. The Tigers will take the field against William Carey at 1 p.m. and play again at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
LSU, the defending Southeastern Conference Champions will open regular season play in February.
