Women's Tennis Struggles at SEC Fall Classic

Doubles Teams Advance at Green Wave Classic

NEW ORLEANS — Two LSU women’s tennis doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2000 Green Wave Classic in New Orleans on Friday afternoon with a pair of 8-3 victories.

Tami Botts and Kelly Craycraft beat UL-Lafayette’s Irena Hubert and Amandine Novotna, while teammates Amy McIlhaney and Fernanda Tsucamoto defeated Ulrika Ericsson and Inge Veerman.

The pair of duos will play two matches on Saturday and hope to advance to Sunday’s final.

In singles play, both Mandy Rice and Kelly Craycraft won their flight “B” first round matches before losing in the second round. In flight “A” singles, Fernanda Tsucamoto lost to 60th-ranked Martina Ondrejkova of South Alabama, 6-1, 7-6, while Tami Botts lost to South Alabama’s Nienke Scheltens in straight sets.

Play continues through Sunday in New Orleans’ Goldring Tennis Stadium.
