BATON ROUGE — The Southland Conference 2000 Newcomer of the Year Christy Connor will join the LSU softball team in the spring for the 2001 softball season.

“Christy is a great hitter who will be an immediate impact player in our line-up,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “She is dedicated to becoming the best player she can be. Christy had a fabulous year, which imcluded not only her performance at UTSA but also an award winning summer.”

Connor will transfer to LSU as a sophomore from the University of Texas-San Antonio where she was named First-Team All-Southland at designated player after having tremendous impact in her freshman season.

Connor was second on the UTSA team in batting, with an average of .353 on a squad that led the Southland Conference in batting with a school-record .311 average. She shared the team lead in doubles (13), had seven home runs, a .533 slugging percentage, 31 RBI, 24 runs and 60 hits in 170 appearances.

As a member of the Katy (Texas) Cruisers, Connor helped capture the 18 & Under Gold National Tournament Championship. She was honored as a First Team All-American at the tournament.

Connor was a three-year starter and letterwinner at Katy High School. Her senior season in 1999, Conner had a batting average of .333 and led her team to a 23-7 record and state runner-up.

The LSU softball team begins its season in February with a tournament at Arizona State in Tempe.
