BATON ROUGE — Former LSU women’s golfer Michelle Louviere of Lafayette, earned conditional qualifying status for the 2001 Ladies Professional Golfers Association tour based on her play recently in the Q-School finals in Daytona Beach, Fla., recently.

Louviere finished in a tie for 42nd in the qualifying school, shooting a 5-over par 293 for 72 holes (72-73-73-75) on the LPGA International Champions Golf Course.

The first 14 players earned totally exempt status on the tour for 2001, while the next 35 (through 49th place) earned non-exempt status, which still allows them to enter a number of tournaments during the year following in the entry process after the exempt players.

Louviere, who now resides in Baton Rouge, participated on the SBC Futures Tour this past year, finishing 47th on the money list with over $8,700 in earnings. She earned over $16,000 in two years on the tour, with her best finish coming this year when she finished ninth in the Aurora Health Care Futures, winning $1,312.

“We are very excited for Michelle and wish her the best of luck next year on the LPGA tour,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen of her former player. “She has worked very hard to achieve this and this is the next step up the ladder for her in trying to make it as a professional.”
