Colosio Upset in Second Round of ITA Clay Courts

PIKESVILLE, Md. — LSU’s sixth-ranked women’s tennis player, Bruna Colosio, was upset in the second round of the T. Rowe Price ITA Clay Court Championships on Friday, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-2, by Ole Miss’ 28th-ranked Julie DeRoo.

“I’m proud of the way that Bruna came out today and played her heart out,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “But DeRoo just played some of the best tennis that I have seen in a while, and she just happened to be too much for Bruna in this match.”

After winning the first set, 7-5, Colosio, who was the top-seeded player in the tournament, couldn’t overcome a disappointing second set versus DeRoo in which she lost in a tiebreak, 7-6(5). DeRoo continued to roll in the third set where she closed out the upset victory, 6-2.

The LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, in Palo Alto, Calif., at the National Team Tennis Championships.
