No. 1 Seed Colosio Marches On At ITA Clay Courts

PIKESVILLE, Md. — LSU’s sixth-ranked women’s tennis player, Bruna Colosio, advanced to the second round of the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships Thursday with a 6-1, 6-3, victory over No. 33 Kristi Dascoli of Ohio State.

“Bruna is playing very solid tennis right now,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Last year she injured herself in the last match of the season, and she spent the entire summer doing extensive rehab, so now she looks faster and stronger than ever.”

The top-seeded Colosio moves on to face Ole Miss’ 28th-ranked Julie DeRoo in the second round of the Clay Court Championships, which is the opening leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Grand Slam at the Suburban Club in Pikesville, Md.

In doubles play, the Lady Tigers’ 27th-ranked team comprised of Lauren Haddix and Colosio fell to Ohio State’s eighth-ranked duo of Dascoli and Monica Rincon, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Colosio/Haddix will face Kentucky’s 11th-ranked Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the consolation bracket.

“Lauren and Bruna played very hard today,” Minnis said. “It’s encouraging to see them play this well in their first tournament of the season.”

LSU’s sixth-ranked Colosio will take on Ole Miss’ 28th-ranked DeRoo on Friday morning at the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships in Pikesville, Md.
