BATON ROUGE — Herb Vincent, who has served as sports information director at LSU for the last 12 years and as an associate athletic director for the last eight, has been named Vice President for Communications for College Sports Southeast, it was announced Monday.
Vincent will coordinate all promotions and communications for the regional sports network located in Birmingham, Ala.
Vincent, who has served as the LSU sports information director since July of 1988, was appointed assistant athletic director in November of 1989, then elevated to his current position in December of 1992. He joined LSU as assistant sports information director in February of 1988 and was promoted to the position of SID in July of that year.
“These have been the greatest years of my life and I’ve made a lot of great friends along the way,” Vincent said. “I’ll be forever grateful to Joe Dean and to LSU for the opportunities they gave me. My new position will give me further opportunity to improve in my career and to maintain my relationships in collegiate athletics.”
Prior to coming to LSU, the Shreveport, La., native worked as assistant public relations director in charge of basketball publicity for the Southeastern Conference office in Birmingham. Before joining the SEC, Vincent spent one year as assistant SID at Southwestern Louisiana, where he served as director of athletic publications.
In 1985, he was assistant PR director for the United States Football League’s Los Angeles Express and was promoted during the season to the PR staff’s top position. Vincent spent the 1984 season as assistant PR director for the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers.
Vincent, 39, received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from LSU in 1983. He worked as a student assistant in the sports information office directed by CoSIDA Hall of Famer Paul Manasseh during his undergraduate years. Vincent is married to the former Jamey Cavacini of Versailles, Ky.
