BATON ROUGE — LSU softball senior Tara Asbill was named to the GTE Academic All-America third team as selected by College Sports Information Directors Association Thursday.
The shortstop from Elgin, S.C. has a 3.38 in Kinesiology and will graduate in the Fall of 2000. This honor comes after she was earlier named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, as well as the GTE Academic All-District for the second time.
“I am really proud of Tara,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “She has worked really hard, and it has really paid off. Her commitment to her academics is equal to her hard work on the field.”
Asbill finished her time at LSU with a career average of .343 for her four years. She holds several records at LSU, including the career record of 27 home runs that she set this year along with her single season record of 12 homers.
Asbill was named third team All-American this season. She was also selected first team All-SEC for the fourth time. She was one of two players in the SEC to be named All-SEC all four years of their careers.
